Complete Dentures

There are two types of complete dentures; conventional and immediate. Immediate Complete dentures are made after the teeth had been extracted on the same day and tissues are beginning to heal. On the other hand, Conventional dentures are made 8-12 weeks after all the teeth have been extracted and the gums have already healed.

Immediate dentures are made for a patient to have teeth during the healing phase. However, when bones and gums have completely healed, they are going to shrink making the denture loose and sometimes dislodged making this process a temporary solution and should be replaced shortly after.

Partial Dentures

This type of denture usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored acrylic and is connected by a metal framework beneath it.

There are two types of partial dentures; removable and fixed. Removable dentures are those dentures with metal framework and is directly contacting the natural soft tissues that was left after extraction. This framework helps the dentures remain intact making it safe for removal. Fixed dentures on the other hand, does not reach the gum area. It is only replacing the crown portion of tooth that is missing and covering the crowns of its adjacent teeth (abutments). This type of denture is often called as bridge.
