Dental Veneers

Also known as porcelain laminates, veneers are thin, specially made, tooth colored materials designed to cover the front part of teeth in order to achieve that perfect smile. These shells are bonded using a light cured bonding material to place it permanently against the natural teeth changing their color, shape, size or length however desired by the patient.

Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. You will need to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you with your dentist.

What Types of Problems Do Dental Veneers Fix?

Veneers are routinely used to fix:

1. Teeth that are discolored - either because of root canal treatment; stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride or other causes; or the presence of large resin fillings that have discolored the tooth
2. Teeth that are worn down
3. Teeth that are chipped or broken
4. Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped (for example, have craters or bulges in them)

Do Dental Veneers Require Special Care?

Veneers are easy to maintain. Continue to follow proper oral hygiene practices like brushing, flossing and rinsing with antiseptic mouthwashes. Even if Porcelain Veneers resist stains, it is recommended to still avoid stain-causing beverages and foods in order to prolong the integrity of your veneers.

Are there alternatives to Dental Veneers?

The cost of veneers varies depending on the part of your country and the complexity of your service. Usually, the price of veneers is between $1,000 and $2,000 per tooth. Insurance usually does not cover the cost of veneers. Check with your specific dental insurance company to be certain.
