Abri Dental – “Best” Porcelain Veneers in Los Angeles

Porcelain Veneers are one of the most aesthetic means of creating a more pleasing and beautiful smile. It is one of the most trusted cosmetic procedure that can enhance your teeth in just one or two appointments. These dental veneers are thin pieces of precisely shaped porcelain covers that adhere to the teeth. They are considered to be the most natural looking option to conceal imperfections on your teeth. In the artisan world of dentistry, porcelain veneers are where art meets science. Veneers are truly the artistic expression of a dentist. Even though there is no such thing as “best” when it comes to measuring artistic aptitude, here in Los Angeles, among Hollywood celebrities and scholars alike, a mark of a good dentist is measured by the quality of his or her veneers. in this article, we will briefly explain the three steps that go into getting your porcelain veneers. 1. Treatment and Consultation Planning. As in all medical procedures, the first step involves a lengthy and informative consultation with your dentist. It is important for you to communicate with your dentist the results you would like to achieve. Your dentist will examine your teeth during the appointment to see if dental veneers are appropriate for you. Your dentist may also take additional X-rays and in some cases possibly make additional impressions of your mouth and teeth to achieve the desired mold. Once a treatment plan has been discussed and agreed upon, we move on to the next step; preparation. 2. Preparation Generally, your dentist will remove about 0.5 millimeters of enamel from the tooth surface in preparation for your veneer. This 0.5 millimeter is nearly equal to the thickness of the veneer that will be added to the tooth surface. There is no need to be overly concerned about the pain. Your dentist will apply a commonly used local anesthetic to numb the area before trimming off the enamel. In some cases, local anesthetic may not even be needed. Next, your doctor will make an impression of your teeth. The impression mold is then sent to a dental laboratory which will construct your veneer. It usually takes 2-4 weeks for your dentist to receive your veneer from the laboratory. 3. Placing the Veneer Your dentist will temporarily place your veneer on your teeth to examine its fit and will check the color before he/she permanently cements it to your teeth. The fitting process is important and requires patience on both sides. Once the proper fit has been achieved, your teeth will then be prepared to receive the veneer by cleaning, polishing, and etching. A special bonding agent is applied to the veneer and the veneer will be placed on your teeth. Your dentist will then apply a special light beam to quicken the drying process of the bonding agent. The final steps involve removing any excess cement, evaluating your bite, and making any final adjustments on the veneer as needed. Your dentist might ask you to come back in two weeks for a follow up in order to know how your gums are responding to your new veneer. Simple, easy, and time-efficient! In just a few visits, you can finally achieve a more beautiful smile, by showing your new, pearly white, healthy, natural looking, shiny teeth! Dental Hygiene Tips

Proper Tooth brushing Brushing your teeth is the most common preventive measure you can do to reduce plaque that can cause tooth decay. How often should we brush our teeth? The answer is based on complete plaque removal rather than the number of brushings per day. Be cautious about the potential damage that may be caused by vigorously scrubbing the teeth. Overtime this may cause abnormal abrasion (wear) of the tooth structure, gingival recession and exposure of the root surface. Here’s the tips on how to brush your teeth properly: •    Place the head of the toothbrush where the gums and teeth meet. •    Roll the bristle from the gums toward the crown and brush it down. Move the brush to the next tooth and repeat the same motion. •    Place the brush horizontally at the back of the teeth. Keep the bristles in one place and move the brush back and forth. •    Hold the brush vertically at the back of the front teeth and make gentle strokes back and forth over each tooth. •    Place the brush on the chewing surface and move the brush back and forth or in a circular motion. Repeat this process to reach and clean all surfaces of upper and lower teeth. Proper Flossing Removing plaque from between the teeth is a critical part of your good oral health. Dental floss is the most effective way for most people to remove plaque from between the surfaces of the teeth and reduce inter proximal bleeding. Dental calculus occurs at every age and on both permanent and primary teeth. Calculus plays an important role in the progression of periodontal or gum disease. We encourage each of our patients to develop a habit or a goal to thoroughly remove plaque at least once daily. Flossing regularly can help prevent having periodontal disease. Tips on how to floss properly: •    Cut a length of floss about 18 inches long. •    Wrap excess floss around the middle fingers of both hands, leaving 2-3 inches in between. •    Stretch the floss tightly between the thumb and index fingers. •    Pass the floss gently between the teeth. Curve the floss into a “C” shape against a tooth and slide it gently into the space between the gum and tooth. •    Move the floss up and down again on the other side of the tooth. Repeat this whole process on each of your teeth. You might experience bleeding at first but as you floss regularly the bleeding will eventually go away. Available at our Los Angeles dental offices conveniently located in Beverly Hills, Valencia and Burbank.

Gummy Smile / Uneven Teeth

What is a “Gummy Smile”? Often times, teeth are small because of extreme wear from grinding or combination of grinding and acid erosion. If the teeth have worn away severely i.e. 20% or more of the original volume, then the only solution is rebuilding them with porcelain reconstruction. However, there are times that teeth are just hiding underneath the gums and all one needs to do is lift the curtain up with a cosmetic laser gum lift. Another situation that might give the illusion of small teeth is limited upper lip movement when smiling. If the upper lip does not move, the solution might be plastic surgery and or lengthening of teeth with porcelain veneers. Smile more!
